The wave start times depend on which distance you choose and are as follows:

• 100k - Registration opens 08:30; registration closes 09:30. This wave of riders will depart between 09:00 and 09:45.
• 66k – Registration opens 09:30; registration closes 10:30. This wave of riders will depart between 10:00 and 10:45.
• 33k – Registration opens 10:45; registration closes 11:45. This wave of riders will depart between 11:15 and 12:00.

**Please note these timings may slightly change**

The minimum age to take part in Break the Cycle is 12 years old. All participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a participating adult at all times.

If you would like to change route, please contact ljones@bristolbearsrugby.com and we can arrange this for you. There may be an additional fee and fundraising target if you are looking to change to a longer distance.

Although we've made every effort to keep the routes as close as possible to 33, 66, and 100 km, slight variations may occur due to the nature of the roads and wanting to create the most enjoyable experience possible.

Definitely! We love having teams participate in Break the Cycle. The easiest way to do this is by signing up individually through our Enthuse page. There is then an option to create or join a team when signing up.

You will receive an event pack on the morning of the event at registration, this will include your rider number, cable ties and any jersey purchased in advance.

Before you start...
There will be complimentary coffee served between 7-9 am thanks to support from the Bike Shed Cafe.

On the route...
Each route will have at least one feed station where you can take a break and recharge with snacks and water. If you have preferred snacks for refuelling, we suggest bringing some along just in case.

At the finish...
From midday there will be complimentary hot food available when finishing, provided by Nando’s as part of your entry and also a pint by Bristol Beer Factory, so you can quench your thirst and relax after completing your challenge!

Please make sure to pass through the rider control points, particularly at the finish line so we know you are back safely. If you decide to leave the course early and do not plan to return, please ensure you notify a marshal or other member of staff. You must complete the course by 5pm. It is not a race.

Approximately 30 minutes after the last rider starts, our team will set out to clear the route. They will be removing all route signs and markings at this point. Our team will stay behind the last riders and assist any riders who may be having problems. They will aim to have the route markings removed and all riders finished by 17:00 latest.

• Event number: Please ensure you have completed the emergency information on the back of your event number and fix the number to the handlebars of your bike with the zip ties supplied, so it can be clearly seen.
• Helmet: Any rider not wearing a safety helmet will be excluded from the ride.
• Suitable kit: If the forecast is for hot weather, please wear high factor sun cream and a second bottle of water is strongly recommended. In poor weather conditions, it is advisable to bring lights and high visibility if fog or rain is forecast or where light is likely to be reduced.
• Basic repair tools: Whilst technical support is available on route, please bring some basic tools and inner tubes for changing tyres and adjusting bike settings.
• Important: Your bike must be roadworthy and well maintained. The technical support should not be used to fix existing problems with your bike; it is available to help resolve any problems that have occurred on the way to the event.
• Ride nutrition: Bring a minimum of one bottle of water and enough food for the ride distance. Please note, the feed stops are for additional water and snacks and should not be relied on as your only source of food on the day.
• Some cash and a debit card: to donate for parking and to purchase any food and drink at UWE (card only).
• Mobile Phone: Please ensure your phone is fully charged, so you can contact us in the case of an emergency.

The Break The Cycle route has been designed by experienced cyclists/trainers. All routes have been carefully selected to match the needs and ability of the riders who enter them. Bronze is entry level, for beginners, Silver is for intermediate riders and Gold for experienced riders. All routes use ‘tried and tested’ roads that are well suited for recreational cycling but PLEASE NOTE these roads ARE NOT CLOSED and so please ride carefully, respectfully and safely. There will be a safety briefing for all riders about the route and signage before they set off.

The route is marked using route arrows. The route signs will direct you around the course and will be located at junctions and turnings.

Important: Although the route is clearly marked, you should study your route on Strava before starting to familiarise yourself with the route. You should refer to your map frequently during your ride to confirm your location. If you accidentally stray from the route you should track back to the last point where you knew you were on the route. On occasions, the general public tamper with signs; it is therefore each rider’s own responsibility to follow the route themselves and to ride appropriately on the public roads.

We do not have anywhere to store belongings and take no responsibility for any personal belongings. Everything you bring along will need to be taken with you for the whole event or locked in your car.
